I visited Ebonyi state yesterday to assess the workshops where we will be conducting training programmes for their youths in auto diagnostics and maintenance. This is part of the project between the German Government and Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company that is implemented by Innoson Kiara Academy. 25 workshops are being set up in the 5 states of the Southeast to enable us train 2,200 youths in 3 years. Members of the National Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) in the Southeast will mentor the trainees.
Ebonyi youths that are interested are currently undergoing initial assessments for entry into the programme.
We paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Education. After our presentation, he took us to the Ebonyi State Vocational College – a very impressive institution that is fully equipped and can even manufacture solar energy powered tricyles. It is currently not functional and I have promised to support the state to revive it and maximise its potential. Such institutions should be optimally utilised if we are serious about managing unemployment in this country.
